Scripps National Spelling Bee again could feature co-champions

Co-champions are back at the Scripps National Spelling Bee.

After a few years of co-champions, Scripps started having the spellers take a test if a single champion couldn’t be crowned and whoever had the highest score was the winner.

The written test included spelling and vocabulary questions.

But for the last two years, the tiebreaker wasn’t needed.

Organizers say the test took up too much time in an already busy week for spellers.

The National Spelling Bee takes place from May 26 through May 31 at the Gaylord National Resort and Convention Center in National Harbor, Md.
