Islanders rally for 8-2 conquest of Texas, first home win over Longhorns in school history

Luke Marbach’s two-run single in the fifth inning helped spark Texas A&M-Corpus Christi to an 8-2 comeback triumph over Texas at Whataburger Field.

The game was the first victory for Islanders (28-20) over the Longhorns in Corpus Christi. Texas A&M-Corpus Christi’s first four wins over the Longhorns came in Austin.

Reliever Zach Rumfield retired all 12 batters he faced to key some strong Islanders relief pitching in their victory Tuesday night. Earlier, Texas (25-22)  jumped to a 2-0 victory in the first inning against Texas A&M-Corpus Christi starting pitcher Dylan Duarte of Calallen. but failed to score in the rest of the game.

The victory was the final home game for Texas A&M-Corpus Christi this season. They return to action at 6:30 p.m. Friday, visiting Huntsville to square off with Southland Conference rival Sam Houston State in the first of a three-game series.
