A school bus driver in New York State who admitted to raping a 14-year-old girl he met on his route has been spared from jail, leaving the victim’s mother furious.
The Waterford Daily Times reports that Shane Piche, 26, will be registered as a Level 1 sex offender. The judge in his case reportedly said because Piche has no prior arrests and there was one victim, the sentence is appropriate.
The judge sentenced Piche to 10 years probation.
The victim’s mother gave this statement to 7 News: “I wish Shane Piche would have received time in jail for the harm he caused to my child.
“He took something from my daughter she will never get back and has caused her to struggle with depression and anxiety.”
The Times reports Piche is required to pay $375 in court fees and surcharges, plus a $1,000 special sex offender registration fee.
And he is no longer allowed to be alone with anyone under the age of 17.
