DORAL, FL (CNN) – You would hope that spellers would be on their toes around a school — especially those who have already graduated.
But that wasn’t the case at a Florida school where an embarrassing gaffe recently happened.
Instead of “school,” the crosswalk was spelled “scohol.”
This spelling mishap quickly went viral and left school Florida officials scrambling to wipe the egg off their face at their elementary mistake. The mistake was blamed on contractors hired by developers in Doral, a suburb about 15 miles northwest of downtown Miami.
“It’s not a good thing when you misspell school,” onlooker Maxwell Eastertold WPLG via CNN. “It’s not a good look. At all.”
That might be one of the bigger understatements of all time.
The mistake prompted a steady line of residents who stopped and took selfies of them standing in the unusual crosswalk.
“My buddy pulled it up on Twitter and saw that someone had misspelled school and we had to come see it for ourselves,” Easter explained.
The snafu won’t be around for long. Once the city of Doral saw the post was going viral, they responded on Twitter that would work quickly to fix it.
#UPDATE– This SCHOOL zone striping was handled by the developer's contractor. They have been notified and are working expeditiously to correct. Thank you to all who brought this very important matter to our attention. https://t.co/4YVR82gsrB
