“A fool. A great leader … but wrong.”

That’s what a local priest thinks about Nueces County Judge Barbara Canales.

Father James Farfaglia of the Lady of Guadalupe Church, took to Facebook criticizing Canales for her comments in support of the LGBTQ community.

This came after Canales was chosen as grand marshal of the upcoming 2019 Pride Parade.

After his Facebook post, Father Farfaglia addressed the church during his Palm Sunday homily.

“Homosexuality is not a sin the act of sodomy is Pope Francis has said,” Farfaglia said. “The only hope and then the LGBTQ plus, whatever values are not the values of Corpus Christi, Texas. And they’re not the values of South Texas.”

Canales says she does not have any comment on the post.

We did, however, receive a comment from the Mosaic Project of South Texas, which is hosting the Pride Parade.

They say they appreciate Canales’ “support of equality, respect and dignity of LGBTQIA individuals.”

We’ll have more on this developing story throughout the day on KRIS 6 News and KRIStv.com.
