Just past the intersection of Saratoga and Rodd Field Road, a Corpus Christi Bond side sits on the side of the road. What is missing are sidewalks allowing for people to walk safely along that stretch of road. The city cites that age is the primary reason for not having sidewalks for people to use.
“This road is very old,” Yvette Garcia-Jones of the City Engineering Department said. “It was built back in the 1940’s.”
However, the lack of sidewalks has created a dangerous situation for pedestrians. There are also no safe crosswalks nearby in the area. KRIS 6 obtained a video of a woman in an electric scooter making a dangerous attempt to cross the street in the middle of oncoming traffic. She’s been doing this for a long time.
“I have been going across that street for probably eight years now,” Stephanie Cuperus said.
Cuperus also claims that this was her only choice.
“There’s nothing you know I have to go quite a ways just to be able to a regular sidewalk.”
The city is aware of the issue and has started to make changes.
“There are a lot of other updates that are coming to meet the demand of the development and traffic flow that is now through the area,” Garcia -Jones said.
The project is expected to be completed by the end of 2020.
