The waiting almost is over for the Hooks.
Thursday night is the big night for them as they play their home opener against the Amarillo Sod Poodles at Whataburger Field.
Abraham Toro returns for them to play third base.
He’s a very interesting young man. Born in Canada, wound up playing junior college ball in Oklahoma. He’s fluent in three languages.
Toro brings a lot to the table. And he admits his road to South Texas has been a bit unusual.
“So, I got an offer to go to Seminole State Jr. College in Oklahoma and they offered me a scholarship,” Toro said. “I went there and that’s where the Astros saw me and drafted me.
“I was born and raised in Montreal, so obviously we speak French over there, and my family is from Venezuela so I speak Spanish. And English, I just learned in school and that’s like the third language I learned.”
Don’t forget, first pitch will be set for 6:15 p.m. tomorrow. We’ll have complete coverage of all the opening night festivities.
