Morgan Freeman has turned his Mississippi ranch into bee sanctuary to preserve environment

Actor Morgan Freeman has taken up another new hobby he hopes will help the environment.

The 81-year-old Freeman recently decided to convert his 124-acre Mississippi ranch into a sanctuary for bees.

During a recent appearance on The Tonight Show, Freeman told host Jimmy Fallon about beginning about five years ago. He told Fallon about his experience keeping bees and his decision to save wild bees for a healthy environment.

“There is a concerted effort for bringing bees back onto the planet,” Freeman told Fallon. “We do not realize that they are the foundation, I think, of the growth of the planet, the vegetation…”

Freeman said he imported 26 bee hives from Arkansas to his Mississippi ranch. He endeavors to feed his bees sugar and water to sustain them. He also has planted bee-friendly vegetation like clover, lavender and magnolia trees to help them.

Interestingly, Freeman told Fallon he never wears a bee suit or a bee hat and hasn’t been stung yet.

His success might be explained by this fact: he only feeds the bees and has no intention of harvesting their honey or disrupting their hives.
