7-year-old girl with inoperable brain tumor wants to receive letters from your dog

A 7-year-old Wisconsin girl who was recently diagnosed with an inoperable brain tumor wants to receive letters from dogs across the nation.

So far, Emma Mertens has received more than 50,000 letters from dogs.

Her love for animals, and specifically dogs, led some family friends to mail or email pictures of their dogs to cheer Emma up after she learned of her diagnosis on Jan. 23, the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel reported. They then asked some of their friends to send pictures, who told more friends.

Within a few days, multiple posts on social media have gone viral. The family is now sorting through tens of thousands of dog pictures for Emma to enjoy.

“We’re getting about 2,800 emails each hour and mail by the truckload,” her father, Geoff Mertens, told the Journal-Sentinel. “I think that says a lot about dog lovers, that they want to take care of more than just themselves.”

Dog owners are asked to consider sending Emma and her family a letter from your dog.
