SPID accident fatality identified by medical examiner

A 69-year-old woman who was killed in a crash on South Padre Island Drive has been identified.

The medical examiner’s office said that Lucia Tanguma died of blunt force trauma in the accident.

The accident occurred about 9:30 p.m. Saturday on westbound SPID between the Everhart and Weber exits.

According to police, three vehicles traveling collided with one other.  When officers arrived, they found Tanguma dead in her vehicle.

Officers said the victim wasn’t wearing a seatbelt and speed was a factor in the accident.

Police closed SPID between Everhart and Weber for about 45 minutes after the accident to clear the scene.

No other injuries were reported in the accident.
