Corpus Christi police say an alleged intoxicated driver crash is to blame in an incident that left more than 800 AEP customers without power.

The crash happened around 6:30 p.m. Saturday night near the intersection of Caranchua and Coleman Avenue.

According to police, the driver of a Camero ran into a power pole causing electricity and lights to come down. The result lead to a transformer to exploding… knocking out power to over 850 AEP customers…including our news station and over at Whataburger Field before a base ball game.

The power was restored more than four hours later.

Police say the driver of the car was taken to be checked out and will likely face DWI charges pending their crash investigation.
