The Nueces County Commissioners Court held its first meeting of the year today. And it came with a new county judge at the helm.
New County Judge Barbara Canales presided at her first meeting since her election last month.
“And I do certify that a quorum is present and we are officially in order,” she said at the start of her first meeting in charge.
With Canales in charge, the court is now a Democratic-dominated court.
The commissioners’ first order of business today was a proclamation honoring civil rights pioneer Dr. Hector P. Garcia.
Present for the proclamation was Garcia’s daughter, Cecilia Garcia-Akers, and Garcia’s nephew, Tony Canales, the father of County Judge Canales.
