One man is dead tonight and another in the hospital after being hit by a car on Clarkwood Road.  The accident happened around 8:30 p.m. on the 700 block of Clarkwood Road near Agnes street.

Lt. Timothy Frazier with the Corpus Christi Police Department says a 22-year-old man and a 23-year-old man were walking along Clarkwood Road when they darted in front of an oncoming car possibly to get across the road.

The 22-year-old driver who was going southbound on Clarkwood was unable to stop in time to avoid hitting the two men.   The 23-year-old  was pronounced dead at the hospital.  The 22-year-old is in critical but stable condition.

According to Frazier, the driver stopped to wait for police to arrive.  He also told us that the area is extremely dark and the pedestrians were at fault.  No citations will be issued at this time.

The 23-year-old lived close to the scene of the accident. The victims’ families have been notified.
