Oscar De La Hoya responds to Floyd Mayweather’s mean-spirited troll

Posted

Oscar De La Hoya and Floyd Mayweather fought earlier in their boxing careers.

It appears like the old rivalry hasn’t abated.

Mayweather started the most recent exchange when he took to instagram to call De La Hoya “Golden Girl” for his 21.8 million followers. As you can imagine, Mayweather’s response started a storm of abuse to De La Hoya and also to him.

De La Hoya told TMZ he believes that Mayweather has blown most of his career savings and is trying to pick a fight with De La Hoya to spark a potential fight with Canelo Alvarez, who represents De La Hoya’s “Golden Boy” Promotions.

And it also prompted a response back to Mayweather.

“Floyd, stay under your rock dude,” De La Hoya said.

Mayweather has a 50-0 career record, including his most recent victory over Conor McGregor last year. But at 41, it might be hard for many people to be excited if he fought the 28-year-old Alvarez.

But De La Hoya, 45, might be a different story.

It appears there are still sparks of a rivalry after their 2007 bout, which resulted in a split decision victory for Mayweather. It remains the only split decision in Mayweather’s career.

What fight would you prefer to see? Alvarez and Mayweather or another hookup between “The Golden Boy” and “Money?”
