Cultured meat, colloquially known as “clean meat” or “lab-grown meat,” could possibly be in a grocery store near you as early as 2020.

Through a complicated process, stem cells from animals are used to essentially grow meat in a laboratory. The differences in the look, the feel, and the taste are almost impossible to perceive with human senses, and the progressive implications in the food and agriculture industry are huge.

With theconsumption of meat increasing exponentially in the last decade or so, cultured meat has the potential to satisfy the world’s desire for meat without the expensive, lengthy and risky business of animal farming.

As the procedure is perfected by companies like Memphis Meats, Mosa Meat and Modern Meadow, the FDA and USDA have been forced to tackle tough questions like how the special man-made meat should be labeled.
