Corpus Christi Police are warning of three card skimmers that were discovered over the weekend.
According to CCPD, the devices were found at convenience stores on the south side by attentive store clerks.
The skimmers were found on ATMs inside stores at 4754 SPID, 5939 SPID and 3801 Rodd Field Road.
All three of the devices were “overlay” type devices that were custom made to quickly attach to specific makes and models of ATM’s with double stick tape, police said.
All of the devices contained memory cards, download ports, and an integrated pinhole camera that was aimed at the keypad to capture the PIN that was entered during the transaction.
Police say it is unknown at this time how long these devices have been in place and there exists the possibility that other devices are currently in place at other locations within the city.
In a statement released earlier today, Stripes Spokesperson Jessica Davila Burnett said,
“Two of the site mentions are ours. It was our associates who reported the skimmers to CCPD. We’ve checked out equipment as part of our daily routine processes for the security of our customers. All of our ATMS are under surveillance and we have submitted our surveillance video to CCPD.”
Investigators are currently reviewing video that was recorded inside the locations.
CCPD requests that local businesses check the ATM’s on their premises for any such devices
ATM users are also advised to carefully monitor activity on their accounts for fraudulent transactions.
