The 2018 Youth Sailing World Championship has made big waves here in Corpus Christi. The championship has brought in people from all over the world who are staying in the Corpus Christi area for the last week.

As you can imagine, this is great news for our local economy.

Members with the Corpus Christi Convention and Visitors Bureau say this competition can pump up to more than $900,000 into our local economy.

With 66 countries in the area, these competitors, their coaches and families were all here filling up hotel rooms, shopping, and of course dining in local restaurants.

Businesses like the Art Center saw an increase in business from people in town for the event.

The competition is helping several businesses stay afloat, including the Emerald Beach Hotel. The facility has opened their doors to the group for the first time, as they are hosting the Youth World Sailing Championship.

Hotel management says 90% of their rooms have been booked, including many of their banquet spaces.
