68-year-old Linda Daniels relied on an electric-powered oxygen tank and when the power was cut off last week, she was found dead several hours later.

The temperature in her home was 90-degrees and she died of heart failure and her death is the focus of our Fact Check investigation.

Do power companies have the authority to cut off electricity to elderly people who have medical problems?

Our fact check team looked into the question and the answer is yes… it’s a fact.

The power companies have the authority to cut off electricity to anyone who has not paid their bill.

However, people who need electricity because of a medical condition can file what’s called a critical care form with the public utility commission that will prevent their electricity from being turned off.
