Corpus Christi police are investigating a fatal crash that happened on a busy highway.
The accident happened just before 8:00 am Saturday morning along the southbound lanes of I-37 at the Crosstown Expressway flyover.
Lieutenant Maria Huerta-Garcia, with the Corpus Christi Police Department, says,"a car hit a pick-up truck, then struck a guardrail, flew off the highway, and landed on I-37 southbound."
Lt. Huerta-Garcia said the driver of the car was transported to the hospital and was later pronounced dead. Police could only say the driver was a young male in his twenties.
Police also said at the scene that speed was a factor in the crash.
Investigators say the flyover from I-37 to the Crosstown Expressway will be closed because the crash caused significant damage and needs to be examined by TX-DOT before it is re-opened.
