Park Rangers are telling people to watch out for a nasty little jellyfish that could ruin your afternoon.
Saturday afternoon, Park Rangers say they saw two dead sea nettles and are reminding the public to avoid them because they still sting.
Rangers posted a picture on their Padre Island National Seashore Facebook page of a sea nettle, telling people to be on the lookout.
The post states,"Jellyfish (and jelly-like animals like the Portuguese man-of-war) have cells along their tentacles called cnidocytes. Inside these cells are nematocysts, dart-like structures that contain venom.
"When touched, the nematocysts shoot out and inject their venom. Just describing it sounds painful, so it makes sense why so many visitors seek first aid for jellyfish stings at the Visitor Center," the post continued.
Park Rangers added if you’re going the Padre Island, take vinegar and meat tenderizer. The reason why? Rangers say a mixture of both will deactivate the nematocysts so they don’t release any more venom.
