A Corpus Christ man was arrested yesterday for allegedly driving drunk with an infant child in the vehicle and then leaving the child unattended and locked inside the vehicle.

Brian Raburn, 42, was arrested and charged with Abandoning/Endangering a Child Imminent Danger Bodily Injury, and Driving while Intoxicated with Child.

According to police, at about 2:30 p.m., officers were called out to a daycare center on Everhart Road.  When officers arrived, employees told them that an intoxicated man came to the daycare and tried to pick up his infant child.

Daycare employees said they tried to distract Raburn while police were called, but that he was able to leave with the child before officers arrived.

The daycare employees stayed on the phone with police dispatch, and when officers arrived, they were able to provide information that police said was helpful in locating Raburn.

Officers searched the area, and went to the Raburn’s residence, where they found the vehicle.

Police found the car off and locked, with the infant inside. The child was in a car seat, crying and sweating heavily, police said.

Officers immediately broke the vehicle’s window to rescue the child. Medics arrived at the home and transported the infant to Driscoll Children’s Hospital for follow-up care.

Police saw Raburn asleep on a couch inside the home, and after knocking on the door several times, were able to wake him.

When officers questioned Raburn about the child, he said the infant was asleep in a bedroom, and later said the child was with the mother.

Police say Raburn appeared intoxicated, and after administering several field sobriety tests, was taken into custody.
