Corpus Christi city manager Margie Rose announced her resignation late Tuesday evening.
Rose was under review going into the Tuesday’s council meeting. According to the agenda, council member entered executive session to "deliberate the appointment, employment, evaluation, reassignment, duties, discipline, or dismissal of the city manager." In the end, Rose stepped down from her role.
"As a professional, you should know when it’s time to make a transition. I feel that the time has come for me to make that transition," Rose commented, as she announced her resignation to the council.
Rose is ending a 16-year career with the City of Corpus Christi. She officially took over as city manager in July 2016, two months after the resignation of Ron Olson. She served as his deputy city manager for two years, after serving as assistant city manager for 12 years.
Speaking about her decision, Rose said there are "a lot of different issues going on." However, she did not cite a specific reason for her resignation.
"There are certain things that triggers knowing that you need to evaluate yourself or evaluate situations," Rose explained. "And because I’ve been in the profession long enough, I know when different things happen that it is time to start evaluating and, as a result, you make decisions like I made tonight."
Rose’s resignation is effective on Wednesday, May 16. City council members appointed assistant city manager Keith Selman was the interim city manager at Tuesday’s meeting.
