A statement from the city says,"Due to public safety concerns, the Corpus Christi Parks & Recreation Department has closed the pier at Cole Park."
The statement was issued just before 4:00 pm Monday afternoon.
The pier, located at 1900 Ocean Drive, has been a frequent visiting area for families who attend the park and those who fish from the pier.
The city says an inspection of the pier found the aging infrastructure to be unsafe for people to use.
There is no statement from the city if they plan on repairing the aging infrastructure.
