Last day for candidates to apply for District 27 special election

Posted

Our congressional district is currently without representation after Blake Farenthold resigned in early April.

"We are now required to hold a special election to fill that vacancy," KRIS 6 News political analyst Dr. David Smith said after the resignation.  "We cannot go without representation because this is the people’s house, the House of Representatives."

Today is the last day for a person to apply for the position with the office of the Texas Secretary of State. The deadline is 5:00 p.m.

The special election will take place on June 30.

In the meantime, 27th District business is handled by the Clerk of the House of Representatives. The Clerk of the House is a career staffer, one who wasn’t elected and has no connection to the district; leaving the 27th without an advocate.

So far, four people have announced their intent to run in the special election:
Michael Cloud
Eric Holguin
Bech Bruun
Roy Barrera
