Tuesday is a huge day for Texas A&M-Corpus Christi senior Joseph Kilgore who plays on the basketball team.

Mayor Joe McComb officially declared "Joseph Kilgore Day" at the start of a Corpus Christi city council meeting.

Kilgore won the 2018 State Farm College "Slam Dunk Contest Championship" on March 29, 2018, at St. Mary’s University as part of the NCAA Final Four festivities in San Antonio.

His performance earned a spot on ESPN’s top 10 that evening.

What made today even more special? It’s Kilgore’s 22nd birthday.

Kilgore said,"It’s crazy. I mean I’m thankful for it though. It’s a blessing so; I just thank God for being in this position. And just take it all in while I can. I got my family with me, so it’s a great feeling."
