It is a sad day for the local Navy community and USS Lexington museum.
Retired Navy Captain Rocco Montesano passed away early this morning, after a battle with cancer. He was 68 years old.
Montesano retired back January as executive director of the Lexington museum, a post he’d held since 1998.
Lexington’s flag was lowered to half mast today in memory of Montesano.
“The flag is flying at half mast on the ship today, it’s just a small way for us to display our loss and the way we feel about Rocco,” said Steve Banta, Executive Director, USS Lexington museum. “It’s a tribute to a great man.”
A memorial service is being planned for Montesano, details will be released at a later date.
