PORT ARANSAS – There was another step toward normalcy in Port Aransas this weekend as storm recovery continues.
"I’m really excited. I’ve been practicing a whole lot and I know my team has too," Ryan Tallent.
The community hosted its Little League opening day on a field that looked nearly beyond repair after the storm.
"All of those lights, they were all down on the field, and they were crushed and stuff. The whole thing was ruined. I don’t even remember seeing any bases," Tallent said.
The Port Aransas Community Park is back in working order through several donations from sponsors, as well as dedicated volunteers.
Parents said being back in the bleachers brought a sigh of relief.
"They’ve been stronger than what you would think. They’ve all had crazy experiences and come through it, and it’s great for them to be back to their routines and do the things that mean so much to them," Christina Hofhiens said.
