CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas — Local law enforcement agencies are conducting many classes on how to respond to an active shooter situation.
There are key words to remember so you know exactly what to do if you're in an emergency situation.
Avoid, defend, deny entry.
And run, hide, fight.
Those words could save lives and the Texas Department of Public Safety and the local police department want to make sure as many people as possible make them part of their vocabulary.
Over the next few weeks - and before the start of classes - training sessions will offered at schools for staff and parents at schools about the meaning behind these words.
It's to create a mindset about having a plan of action as soon as you enter a building or public space.
We’ll have more on that tonight on KRIS 6 News.
