CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas — Prices at the gas pump are going up and have been over the past two weeks or so.
The reason for the increase is in part, President Joe Biden's proposal to ban drilling on federal land and the pandemic.
Dr Jim Lee, a professor of economics at Texas A&M Corpus Christi said prices will continue to fluctuate.
According to professor Lee, "we are seeing rising gasoline prices but it just reflects how our economy has been recovering since the depth of the pandemic back in March 2020."
Dr. Lee doesn't believe gas will top $3.00 a gallon, he said the highest it'll go is about $2.50.
The average price of a gallon of unleaded runs about $2.01 here in Corpus Christi compared to $2.14 a year ago.
The cheapest gas in Texas is in the McAllen area at a $1.98.
The most expensive is in El Paso at $2.30 a gallon.
