What will suspension of Harbor Bridge design mean locally?

CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas — Design activities on the new Harbor Bridge have been suspended. But what will that mean for the project?

In a statement sent to us last night, the Texas Department of Transportation says it asked Flatiron Dragados, the firm building the bridge, to suspend the design activities.

The Figg Bridge Group designed the new Harbor Bridge.

They also designed a pedestrian bridge at Florida International University which collapsed last year, killing six people.

We’ve already contacted Tx-DOT and Flatiron Dragados with a list of follow-up questions.

We’ll also be speaking with local leaders to hear their concerns about this development.

We’ll have more, coming up this evening, on KRIS 6 News.

The National Transportation Safety Board recently found Figg's design and a lack of oversight as factors in the FIU bridge collapse.
