A couple of furry tourists went hog wild in the Del Mar neighborhood late this morning, terrorizing a man and his small dog and engaging in a standoff with Nueces County deputies and Texas Parks and Wildlife game wardens.
The incident began around 11 a.m. on the 500 block of Atlantic Street when a man saw what he thought was a dog in a neighbor's driveway.
It turned out to be a pair of javelinas.
He picked up his dog, but another neighbor out with his dog wasn't as lucky.
"They came out in the back while the neighbors were out, with another friend of ours and he had his little dog out, and they attacked his little dog," the witness told KRIS 6 News. "Chewed him up pretty good."
Several deputy constables arrived at the scene, but the javelinas ran under a house. The deputies teamed with Texas Parks and Wildlife game wardens, who had been dispatched to the area to handle the wily duo, to flush the pair out with a water hose. Several hours later, the javelinas surrendered.
The javelinas were killed and were taken to a local animal shelter where the residents will be eating high on the hog tonight.
