An early-morning fire caused severe damage on South Padre Island on Saturday, and the worst of it was captured by cell phone video.

The Laguna Vista Volunteer Fire Department’s photo shows the scope of the fire.

The Rio Grande Valley Firefighters and Fire Marshal's Association posted video of the fire.

South Padre Island is about 2 1/2 hours south of Corpus Christi, near the U.S.-Mexico border.

It erupted at the Gulf Point Condominiums around 6:30 a.m.

A National Weather Service radar indicates a lightning strike was the cause.

No injuries were reported.
