Netflix's much anticipated show based on Corpus Christi music legend Selena has been released.

SELENA: THE SERIES, is described as a coming of age story following Selena as she chases her dreams. It follows the heart-wrenching and life changing sacrifices she and her family make as they navigate the highs and lows of success, loss, love, and music.

Before she became the Queen of Tejano music, Selena Quintanilla was a young girl from right here in the Coastal Bend with big dreams and an even bigger voice.

From executive producers Jaime Dávila, Rico Martinez, Hiromi Kamata, Suzette Quintanilla, Simran A. Singh and Moises Zamora, SELENA: THE SERIES was created by Zamora, with Don Todd (“This is Us”) consulting, and stars Christian Serratos, Gabriel Chavarria, Ricardo Chavira, Noemí Gonzalez, and Seidy López.

Young Selena is played by Madison Taylor Baez, who is a happy-go-lucky child who learns what it takes to become an artist from her father.

Selena Quintanilla is played by Christian Serratos, an incredibly talented and charming young woman from South Texas who chases her musical aspirations with her family and becomes one of the most successful Latin artists of all time

The two-part drama explores the once in a generation performer’s journey as a young artist, from singing small gigs here in Corpus Christi with her family, to becoming one of the most successful Latin artists of all time.

The series also shows the years of grit and sacrifice the Quintanilla family navigated together before Selena’s meteoric rise to fame.

Before making SELENA: THE SERIES, the creative team behind it took a research trip to Corpus Christi before production began so that they could take reference pictures and get a feel for Selena’s hometown.

They took thousands of pictures and visited key places from her life, including her home and some of her favorite spots, as well as her memorial and grave.

The first part of the two-part series is out now on Netflix, and there will be nine episodes at 40 minutes each. There is no word on when part two is scheduled to be released.
