CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas — KRIS has launched a News Literacy Project in honor of News Literacy Week.

We’ve partnered with Miller High School’s Media Technology team to show them what it takes to deliver stories that are true and factual.

Earlier this month, we asked them to choose a topic that has impacted their community and to produce a news story.

They chose to tackle the negative perception involving the city's northside.

Then, we taught these students how to how to gather research, shoot video and conduct interviews.

Afterwards, we stepped back and let them be journalists.

The team wanted to tackle the negative perception the community has about Miller High School and the northside community.

Members interviewed several people, including students who said they've dealt with various insults over the years and are tired of the misconception of their school and the Buccaneer community.

Tomorrow, learn who the students interviewed to dispel that rough image and what they say the northside community has taught them.
