CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas — KRIS 6 News is excited to announce that we've teamed up with Miller High school on this innovative project.

We spent this past month working with a team with the school's media technology department.

One of our producers taught them how to develop sources and how to gather research, while reporter Ashley Portillo showed them how to shoot video and conduct interviews.

We then stepped back and let them be journalists.

Here's a snippet as they prepared for their first interview.

“Sometime, if you wait a few seconds, three or four seconds, these guys keep talking and they may give you something that they wouldn't have given you had you just jumped in and asked another question,” Ashley said. “If that makes sense.”

We asked the Miller students to chose an issue that impacts their fellow students and their community.

Tune in tomorrow to find out what topic they chose. It's one they say has affected the north side for years.
