CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas — A new exhibit highlighting the history of women's suffrage was unveiled at the county courthouse this morning.
Historical displays cover milestones leading up to the passage of the 19th Amendment which gave women the right to vote.
The exhibit was assembled by members of the League of Women Voters of Corpus Christi in honor of Women's History Month.
“We focused on 1848 to 1920,” said Sue Williams of the League of Women Voters. “Afterwards, many minority women and women of color were still finding it difficult to vote for various reasons. Roadblocks can be thrown up there. And we continue to fight that battle actually even today.”
A procession inspired by these displays will take place beginning at 10 a.m. Saturday at the Nueces County Courthouse.
