The arrival of a baby can cause anxiety for parents-to-be. That is part of what motivates members of the Corpus Christi Maternal Mental Health Coalition (CCMMHC).
Led by a mission to change the typical approach to perinatal mood and anxiety disorders, this non-profit organization is working to provide both women and men the information necessary to understand prenatal and postpartum mental health.
For many women, the ideals of motherhood — both spoken and unspoken — have a way of crowding the mind and sometimes lead those women to judge themselves through an unrealistic lens. According to those who lead CCMMHC, many choose to suffer in silence, rather than admitting that they feel something different than is suggested by the common expectations of motherhood.
On Wednesday, CCMMHC will partner with House of Rock (511 Starr. St.) for their second annual “Who’s Your Momma?” Mixer and Fundraiser. Everyone is invited to join them for the evening for pizza and other refreshments.
In addition to guest speakers Liza Wisner and Dr. Adriana Dyurich, those who attend will be able to take some fun pictures at the selfie station.
This free event runs from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m.
Are you a Claire Huxtable? Maybe a Kitty Forman? Morticia Adams? Who’s YOUR Momma? CCMMHC invites you to attend and find out.
