Fishing tournament to honor veterans of all ages

Billed as a star-spangled celebration of food, fun, fishing and fund-raising, the 5th Annual Vets Fishing with Vets tournament is once again ready to make a splash in Aransas Pass.

This 2-day fishing tournament was created to honor all military veterans – both young and old – and is organized by The Spirit of Aransas Pass, a nonprofit corporation.

Some of the proceeds benefit The Fisher House in San Antonio, and past events have resulted in contributions of $30,000. The Fisher House provides a home for military families with loved ones receiving care through the South Texas Veterans Health Care System in San Antonio There is no charge for their services.

Vets Fishing with Vets is open to all U.S. Veterans. Non-veterans may fish when they volunteer to take veterans in their boat as part of a team.

Sign-up to fish the tournament or just plan to join the fun at the celebration event afterward., which begins at 6 p.m. Saturday and features dinner, live music and dancing.

It is all happening at the Redfish Bay Boathouse (322 Huff Street) in Aransas Pass.
