In conjunction with World Diabetes Day (Wednesday, Nov. 14), the Corpus Christi-Nueces County Health District will be offering free Wellness Health Screenings.

Diabetes is a health crisis that continues to grow. The number or people with diabetes has risen from 108 million in 1980 to over 422 million today. The World Health Organization now estimates the direct cost of diabetes at more than $827 billion per year, globally.

Each November since 1991, organizations around the world have worked to bring a particular awareness to the problem, including providing education on how to spot the warning signs of diabetes and what to do when it affects you or your family. It is estimated that 80% of Type 2 Diabetes cases are preventable through the adoption of a healthy lifestyle.

The screenings offered here by the Public Health District will take place tomorrow in their auditorium (1702 Horne Road) from 1:00 to 4:00 p.m.

Screenings will include the HbA1c (A1c) test for Diabetes, as well as Blood Pressure and BMI. It should also be noted that this is a 1115 Medicaid Waiver Program.

Healthy snacks will be available for all who attend.

If you would like to RSVP, call (361) 826-1115.
