If you have driven down Water Street recently, a sweet new business might have been noticeable.

Located at 505 S. Water St., Double Dipt is Corpus Christi’s newest ice cream and sandwich shop. It’s open for business.

Owner Lynn Nelson said she previously worked for an attorney’s office in Clearwater Beach, Fla., when she decided with her boyfriend, Mike Movsesian, it was time to follow a new path and open a business.

Nelson said she knew that the Coastal Bend is where she wanted to move, but wasn’t sure what type of business she wanted to open.

“I sold everything and came here on a Greyhound bus and stayed on a friend’s sailboat for a couple of weeks,” Nelson said. “Every morning I got up to look at the water and it was more peace than I have ever felt in my life.”

After the stressful life of working at a lawyer’s office, she said she never had the opportunity to enjoy the water views in Florida.

Nelson said every night, she and Movsesian wished for a sweet treat to eat and realized an ice cream shop would be the perfect downtown addition.

“We found a place and decided to do this for retirement, make ice cream!” Nelson said.

All ice cream at Double Dipt is made in-house.The shop also includes a deli featuring Boar’s Head meat and will deliver sandwiches in the downtown area. Gourmet coffee is also available

The shop is also available for children’s birthday parties, with cotton candy machines and sundae bars.

Nelson said that in the future she hopes bagels to the menu and open earlier in the day.

For now, Double Dipt is open daily from 10 a.m. until 8 p.m.
