As those who have served our country in the military can attest, the USO plays an important role not only for those in uniform, but for their families as well.

Here in the Coastal Bend, the USO of South Texas serves NAS Kingsville and NAS Corpus Christi, home to the 2nd oldest USO in the world. The local group was chartered by President Franklin D. Roosevelt on Apr. 4, 1941.

The mission of USO South Texas remains as valid today as it was then: to strengthen America’s military service members by keeping them connected to family, home and country throughout their service to our nation. USO South Texas is 100% self-funded and relies on community gifts and sponsorships, and all money received by the local organization is spent in the Coastal Bend.

The next USO South Texas fundraiser will be Live on the Lex, featuring the USO Show Troupe.

Performing live annually for more than 300,000 service members and their families, the USO Show Troupe presents top entertainment, with performers possessing extensive Broadway, Off-Broadway, film and TV credits. Musical arrangements are produced in collaboration with Grammy, Emmy and Tony Award-winning writers and arrangers. Costumes are created by both Broadway and internationally recognized fashion designers.

The USO Show Troupe maintains a broad repertoire of music that includes patriotic, big band, 1950’s, 60’s, 70’s, 80’s, disco, Motown, country, Broadway and current Top 40 hits.

Live on the Lex is happening on Friday, Oct. 5 at the USS Lexington Museum on the Bay (2914 N. Shoreline Blvd.)

Doors open for cocktails at 6:00 p.m. (the cash bar will remain open until 10 p.m.) and dinner will be served at 7:00 p.m. The show begins at 7:30 p.m.
