A Filipino crewman who tested positive for COVID-19 will be released from a Corpus Christi hospital tomorrow.
According to Corpus Christi-Nueces County Director of Public Health Annette Rodriguez, the crewman began experiencing shortness of breath about two weeks ago.
City-county health officials communicated with the crewman via messaging and decided he needed to be tested. They sent a nurse on a boat out to the vessel to take a swab sample from the patient, who tested positive for COVID-19. He was then transported to a Corpus Christi hospital.
U.S. Coast Guard/Air Station Corpus Christi Public Affairs representative Hailey Reynolds said the ship remained at anchor in the Gulf of Mexico about 10 miles off the coast of Port Aransas.
Rodriguez said tomorrow will mark the crewman's 14th day in quarantine. He's expected to be released tomorrow and will be able to get back on his ship, which will then be allowed to enter the Port of Corpus Christi.
