ORANGE GROVE, Texas — The fall 2024 football season features a strong senior quarterback group in the Coastal Bend. That's why we're highlighting six seniors in our first-ever KRIS Super 6 Showcase, a combine-like environment that will air Aug. 22 at 6:30 p.m. on KRIS 6.
6-foot-1 quarterback Logan Rodriguez is proud to lead the Bulldogs. Last year they finished the season with 7 wins and 5 losses. Going into fall 2024 they are ranked No. 25 in Dave Campbell's Texas Football UIL 3A-DI preseason poll.
“Growing up here and watching high school when I was little and dreaming of being a quarterback one day," Rodriguez said. "Being here now it motivates me.”
During his junior season he threw for 2,843 yards and 33 touchdowns and rushed for 846 yards and 16 touchdowns.
“I’m able to adapt to changes," Rodriguez said. "I’ve had three different Athletic Directors throughout my high school, and I’m able to shift to different play styles.”
Rodriguez is also good at staying calm under pressure.
“His ability to stay in the pocket, keep looking downfield and deliver the ball when he’s about to get hit because he did take some shots last year. At the same time he did connect quite a few down the field with them.”
He began playing football for the Orange Grove Youth Football League when he was 6-years-old. When Rodriguez found his passion at quarterback he started training under Bradly Chavez.
“He’s been coached really hard over the years, so he’s done a really good job and I think he’s confidence has grown in himself. I think just the fact that when he faces adversity he can just push through it knowing he can accomplish anything, so I’m really proud of him for that.”
Rodriguez works hard on the field and in the classroom with a 4.0 GPA. He is a member of National Honor Society, Future Farmers of America showing pigs and in Mu Alpha Theta’s math club. He is also an Altar Server at St. John of The Cross Catholic Church.
“Well I’ll tell you what I’ve seen is a kid that comes every single day with a purpose. The way he works and the way he leads his teammates, just by watching him right when I got here, you could tell why he’s been the starting quarterback here at Orange Grove.”
Bulldog fans have seen Rodriguez wearing No. 6 on the field, but this fall he’s making a change. He will now have the same number he wore as a kid playing for his dad.
“On TV I grew up watching Johnny Manziel," Rodriguez said. "He was my favorite player growing up when he was at A&M. That’s why I wear No. 2 after him.”
Rodriguez is one of six Coastal Bend senior quarterbacks that have been selected for the KRIS Super 6 Showcase. A combine where the quarterbacks will showcase their skills for the community and hopefully recruiters. The showcase airs Aug. 22 at 6:30 p.m. on KRIS 6.
