The governing body for athletics in the state of Texas, the UIL, announced new rules coming for the 2019-2020 school year regarding concussions.

Beginning next school year, 6A high schools will begin submitting mandatory concussion reports for all sports at the end of each school year. CCISD head athletic trainer, David Sanchez believes this increase in data gathering will be a big benefit.

” I guess over the years with some of the testing going on it might be advantageous to have that data,” Sanchez said.

While CCISD high schools will not be involved in the first round of data submissions to the UIL, Sanchez firmly believes the rule will become statewide and already likes what the district is doing about concussion prevention,.

“We all do inservices to make sure that we are all on the same page and make sure that we can take care of our kids the best we possibly can,” Sanchez said.

The UIL believes that this new rule is the first right step in the direction for future concussion prevention.
