The U.S. Women’s National Team opens their FIFA World Cup play on June 11 at 2:00 p.m. CDT on FOX & Telemundo.
The USWNT will take on Thailand at Stade Auguste-Delaune in Reims, France. This is only the second time the U.S. has played Thailand. The first meeting was in a 2016 match that resulted in a 9-0 victory for the United States.
In the 2015 Women’s World Cup in Canada, Thailand was eliminated by Germany who was No. 1 at the time. USA went on to claim the championship title in the 2015 World Cup.
The Thai roster includes two players who are currently earning their degrees and playing NCAA Division I soccer at American universities. Tiffany Sornpao is a goalkeeper attending Kennesaw State and Miranda Nild, forward, attends UC Berkley.
The U.S. Women’s National Team holds a 7-1-2 record this year. Eight of those matches were against teams that are also competing in France. The USWNT has never lost an opening match in the history of the World Cup tournament.
The USWNT is in Group F along with Thailand, Sweden and Chile. On June 16, USA will take on Chile followed by a match against Sweden on June 20.
