The 4×400 meter boys relay team at Carroll High School will be heading to Austin. The team just edged out Dripping Springs to take home first place in the 5A Region IV meet last weekend in San Antonio.

The Tigers trailed heading into the final leg of the race and it was senior Dominique Vaughn that took the lead in last 100 meters.

“It feels wonderful man it’s like I have been doing this for four years,”  Vaughn said. “In the past I haven’t gotten there but now I have a new team and they are wonderful.”

One of those new runners is sophomore sensation Jakob Gunter. He is the second runner in the team’s relay and has been a spark on this team all season long.

“We sweat together, we die together and we do it every day,” Gunter said.

The Tigers finished second overall in the region meet and will be sending individual athletes to the state meet as well.

The state meet will be May 10 in Austin at the University of Texas.
