Ah, summer. What do you think of? Sun? Sand? If it is the long line of traffic that prevents you from your favorite beach, we have great news for you – the Corpus Christi Regional Transportation Authority (CCRTA) has a bus route to make your life easier. This year, they’ve introduced the Pilot Port Aransas Ferry Shuttle just in time for high season, between May 25 and September 3.
Here are 5 reasons it’s definitely a magical voyage you’ll want to take:
1. It’s much cheaper than driving yourself.
Gas prices are nothing to sneeze at these days, so when you decide to take the CCRTA, you’re saving yourself money. The fare for Pilot Route 99 – the Port Aransas Ferry Shuttle bus – is a mere 25 cents, and the route is over 20 miles in one direction!
2. Traffic won’t be your worry.
The new Pilot Route 99 to Port Aransas will take the edge off your usual summer traffic snarls. Not only is taking the bus a great way to get to the island, you can just sit back and relax during the typical morning and evening commutes. The first and last trip even express in from downtown. It doesn’t get any easier than that.
3. The ferry will no longer be a hassle.
You can skip the long lines at the ferry terminal by taking the Pilot Route 99! The vehicle has access to priority boarding which takes the edge of your commute time to work, school, or to your favorite restaurant!

4. There are numerous route options for getting around.
Concerned that if you take the Route 99 bus to Port Aransas you’ll be committed to just one bus? The CCRTA offers a number of convenient routes on the island. Route 94, a circular bus route, runs in tandem with Pilot Route 99, and stops at even more points of interest. Meanwhile, the Route 65 bus is a second option for leaving Port Aransas, taking the bridge rather than the ferry. And the Flexi-B route offers custom stops for many of your needs.
5. You won’t have to wear out your feet.
It’s fabulous to live in a destination like the Corpus Christi area, but your extremities may suffer if you try to see all the sights on foot. Fortunately, the CCRTA’s bus routes remedy that situation; each route has an array of intriguing stops and runs sun up until sun down with AC. Plus, you can get home in two shakes of a fish tail when you’re tired.
“The first two trips of the morning and the last two trips of the evening are what we call ‘express trips,’ meaning they don’t have stops in between,” Robinson explains. “So it’s a quick way to get around, and it’s available seven days a week.”
