NASA released this animation showing all of the known asteroids from 1999 to January 2018.
NASA says there are more than 18,000 near-Earth objects.
Near-earth objects are asteroids or comets within 121 million miles of the Sun and about 30 million miles of Earth’s orbit around the Sun.
NASA says each week they make an average of 40 new discoveries. Teams hunt and track these objects to look for any impacts on the Earth and other planets.
