Former drama teacher sentenced for sexual contact with minor

NEW HAVEN, Conn. (AP) – A former Connecticut drama teacher has been sentenced to nine months in prison for having a sexual encounter with a student.

The New Haven Register reports that 46-year-old Jennifer Frechette, of New Haven, was sentenced Monday. She pleaded no contest to having sexual contact with someone under 16.

Court documents say two school guards found Frechette and the victim on a makeshift bed in the Wilbur Cross High School costume closet in 2017.

The victim told authorities he and Frechette exchanged flirtatious text messages and that Frechette performed a sex act on him in her classroom in December 2016.

Frechette must also register as a sex offender for 10 years.

The family of the victim is suing Frechette, the school board and the city for negligence.
