After losing two appeals on his prison sentences, Larry Nassar has been moved again.
This time the infamous doctor imprisoned for his role in the sexual abuse scandals of the United States Olympic gymnastics team has been switched to a high-security federal prison in central Florida. It’s been described as a “safe place” for high-profile inmates.
Among other criminals who have served at the Coleman II United States Penitentiary in Sumterville, Fla., near Orlando include the infamous organized crime boss James “Whitey” Bulger.
Since earlier this month, Nassar has been held at the Oklahoma Federal Transfer Center, a holdover facility. Nassar was moved there after spending six months in the federal penitentiary in Tucson, Ariz., where he was assaulted in late May within hours of being released in the general prison population.
According to the Detroit News, Coleman has been described as a “special needs prison.”
Nassar, a former team doctor for the Michigan State University athletic department and USA Gymnastics, was incarcerated in February after pleading guilty to 10 counts of first-degree sexual misconduct.
Nassar’s release date is set for March 2069. He is facing up to 175 years in state prison for sexual assault.
